ABOUT
WENDY WANG
Rooted in Community. Focused on People. Ready to Lead
A Life Built on Service, Family, and Community.
Wendy Wang has called San Gabriel home for nearly 23 years. She came to the United States at age six, was raised by a hardworking single mother, and grew up in the San Gabriel community. Wendy attended local public schools, including McKinley Elementary School, Jefferson Middle School, and Gabrielino High School.
She spent eight years as a student-athlete, playing competitive basketball and competing in the shot put. She was also involved in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and Key Club, where she participated in leadership, service, and community activities. These formative years gave her a deep and lasting connection to San Gabriel’s families, schools, neighborhoods, and small businesses.
For nearly nine years, Wendy has cared for seniors, people with disabilities, and their families through the Los Angeles County In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Program. As a proud member of SEIU Local 2015, she understands firsthand the challenges facing caregivers, seniors, working families, and residents living on fixed incomes.
As a businesswoman, nonprofit executive and board member, and community and youth advocate, Wendy has worked to connect residents, local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and public resources. She is running for San Gabriel City Council to bring transparent, accountable, and resident-centered leadership to City Hall—and to turn community needs into visible, measurable results.

"ISSUES WENDY HAS BEEN ASKING ABOUT"
These are some of the questions residents have raised — and the issues Wendy believes deserve clearer answers, greater transparency, and real action from City Hall.

Trash Rates Up 60%+?, CITY CONTRACTS & TRANSPARENCY
Some commercial and multi-family accounts could see trash costs increase by close to 60%. When long-term public service contracts affect residents and local businesses, the community deserves transparency, accountability, and a meaningful voice.

11% SALES TAX — WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING?
San Gabriel’s current sales tax rate is 11%. Taxpayers deserve to know how revenue is spent, where it goes, and what visible, measurable results it delivers for our community.

PROTECTING THE MISSION PLAYHOUSE
Mission Playhouse is part of San Gabriel’s history, culture, and civic identity. Major investments should come with transparent planning, responsible spending, and progress residents can clearly track.

A REAL VOICE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION
Our young people deserve a stronger and more direct voice in local government. Wendy supports establishing a Youth Commission to encourage civic participation, leadership development, and meaningful representation.

MAKING CITY HALL EASIER FOR SMALL BUSINESSES
Local entrepreneurs should spend more time growing their businesses—not navigating confusing city processes. Wendy supports a ONE-STOP business support system for permits, licensing, city requirements, and local resources.

BUILDING BRIDGES, CREATING OPPORTUNITIES
San Gabriel’s diversity is one of its greatest strengths. By connecting residents, businesses, schools, nonprofits, community organizations, cultures, and generations, we can create stronger partnerships and more opportunities.

"SIX-POINT ACTION PLAN"
1. STREAMLINE THE PERMIT PROCESS
Create a convenient one-stop service where residents and small businesses can get clear guidance on permits, applications, requirements, and the appropriate City departments. Improve coordination between departments, simplify the process, and make it easier for applicants to understand requirements and track their applications from start to finish.
2. PROMOTE TRANSPARENT & COMPETITIVE WASTE SERVICES
Support a more open, transparent, and competitive process for waste-service contracts, including opportunities for multiple qualified providers to compete when contracts are reviewed or renewed. Make rates, contract terms, service standards, and major decisions easier for the public to understand so residents and businesses can see how costs are determined. San Gabriel currently contracts with Athens Services, and the City’s 2026 rate process included adjustments affecting commercial and multi-family customers.
3. ADDRESS THE 11% SALES TAX BURDEN
Strengthen oversight of the City budget and increase transparency around how taxpayer dollars are spent. San Gabriel’s sales tax is scheduled to increase from 10.5% to 11% on October 1, 2026, following the countywide Measure ER increase. Focus on responsible budgeting, clear public reporting, and careful review of City spending.
4. PROTECT HISTORIC & CULTURAL ASSETS
Protect and preserve San Gabriel’s historic and cultural resources, including the Mission Playhouse. Support clear planning, responsible maintenance, and transparent decision-making so important community assets can continue serving residents and future generations.
5. EXPAND YOUTH ENGAGEMENT
Establish a Youth Commission to create a more meaningful role for young people in local government. Give students and young residents opportunities to participate in civic discussions, learn how City government works, share their ideas, and have their voices included in decisions that affect their future.
6. BUILD COMMUNITY BRIDGES
San Gabriel’s local government should include voices from different backgrounds, generations, neighborhoods, cultures, and communities. Strengthen community participation and City commissions so more residents have opportunities to share their experiences and ideas, participate in civic life, and help shape the future of San Gabriel.
